FRY CLUB COLTS          3

SHIRE COLTS REDS      3

Shire Reds were bottom of the division and this was definitely a game we should have expected to win.

This was going to be a game of 2 halves as the strong wind was blowing down pitch 8 from the changing room end. We had the wind in the first half and following a strong opening, a neat move between Mo Bouaziz and Brad Monelle gave Brad the chance to put us 1-0 up. Further good spells of possession gave Brad and Mo further chance but the Shire keeper was proving a good shot stopper. At the back, James Boulton and James Hurrell Smith were again keeping their attack at bay and both full backs Kyle Curtis and Danny McCarthy were pushing forward to help with out attacks. With Oli Randall and Craig Andrews in Midfield we were again dominant but we couldn’t find any further goals and so went into half time 1-0 up.

The first 20 minutes of the second half proved to be our downfall as we conceded 3 goals. First, we failed to clear the ball in defence and from 10 yards the ball was volleyed home to make the score 1-1. Then we gave a away a silly free kick 30 yards out and with the wind behind them somehow managed to find the ball curled around our wall into the bottom left of our goal. Their third goal came from another mistake giving them a one on one with Craig Francis who again had no chance. So, 15 minutes to go and we are staring at defeat. The character of our team was again to be tested to its limit and this is the biggest difference this season to the previous 2. Nobody gave up as we believed we could come back. From a long through ball to Brad which the keeper again got to first, Brad charged him down and got the rebound goal bound to bring us back 3-2. With 5 minutes to go, Craig Andrews chipped the ball over the Shire defence to give Brad the chance for his hat trick, which he took. This set up a brilliant end to the game but in the end we just ran out of time.

A bitterly disappointing result as we certainly expected to win this game. However, although this is 2 points lost, this game again proved how good our team morale and spirit is.

Man of the Match this week was awarded to Kyle Curtis for a controlled and steady performance in defence.
